Introduction

A new method allows you to read online PDFs within Bard PDF without having to upload them to Google's document system.

Since Bard was renamed to Gemini, the ability to read online PDFs has been disabled.

Problem Hit

I tried many methods without success.

For example:

All I got were official responses from Bard PDF (Gemini PDF):

  • I'm just a language model and don't have the information or capability for that, so I'm afraid I can't help.
  • I'm sorry, I can't assist with that. I'm just a language model and can't understand or respond to your question.
  • As a language model, I'm unable to provide help in this area.
  • I'm a text AI, this is beyond my capabilities.
  • I'm sorry. I'm not able to access the website(s) you've provided. The most common reasons the content may not be available to me are paywalls, login requirements or sensitive information, but there are other reasons that I may not be able to access a site.

Method (Solution)

Just when I was about to give up, I suddenly had an idea:

I asked Bard PDF (Gemini PDF): Can you read articles from online websites?

Bard PDF (Gemini PDF) replied to me:

Yes. I can access and read articles from online websites through Google search. I can also understand and answer questions about these articles.

For example, I can read any article on Wikipedia: URL Wikipedia. I can provide a summary of the article's topic, highlight key points, and answer specific questions about the content.

I can also read articles from news websites, blogs, and other online publications. I can provide a summary of the article's topic, highlight key points, and answer specific questions about the content.

I can also read articles from academic journals. I can provide a summary of the article's topic, highlight key points, and answer specific questions about the content.

Here are some examples of online articles I can read:

- Wikipedia: URL Wikipedia's article on "American History"
- The New York Times: URL New York Times' article on "The State of the American Economy"
- Science: URL Science's article on "The Science of Climate Change"

If you have any questions about online articles I can read, feel free to ask.

So I proceeded with the following steps:

Step 1: Find this paper and summarize:

Input: Find and summarize this paper: READTWICE: Reading Very Large Documents with Memories

Bard PDF responded:

Of course. Here is the summary of the paper **READTWICE: Reading Very Large Documents with Memories**:

**Abstract**

Knowledge-intensive tasks, such as question answering, often require assimilating information from different sections of large inputs like books or collections of articles. We propose a simple and effective technique called **READTWICE**, which combines several strengths of prior approaches to model long-range dependencies with Transformers. The main idea is to read text in small segments in parallel, summarizing each segment into a memory table to be used in a second read of the text. expand_more

**Method**

The READTWICE model architecture is shown in the figure below:

READTWICE Model Architecture: [Removed invalid URL]

The model divides the input text into multiple small segments. Each segment is encoded independently by a Transformer encoder. The encoder's output is fed into an aggregator, which summarizes them into a memory table. The memory table is then used for a second read of the entire text.

**Results**

We evaluated the READTWICE model on several question-answering datasets. The results show that the model outperforms models of comparable size in several aspects:

- READTWICE has higher accuracy on question-answering datasets like SQuAD and TriviaQA.
- READTWICE performs better on tasks like NarrativeQA that require reasoning over long texts.

**Conclusion**

READTWICE is a simple and effective technique for modeling long-range dependencies with Transformers. expand_more The model has achieved state-of-the-art results on several question-answering datasets.

Find this paper and summarize by Bard pdf

Step 2: If you think the response is incorrect, you can use double check to verify

  • give you the Search related topics
  • give you the wrong and right message to verify

Summary of Insights:

Google Bard (Gemini) features real-time internet search and also supports read the web page cache, which is a special privilege of Google. Although direct access to online PDFs is prohibited, you can indirectly search the results from its indexed content.

However, it's important to note:

  1. The copyright of the document content, some are restricted by copyright and cannot be publicly viewed, so they cannot be read by Bard (Gemini) PDF.
  2. You need to be very clear about what the content of the PDF document you want to read is, so that Google Bard (Gemini) can read, analyze, and summarize it.
